INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE DISAPPEARED

ARGENTINA ORGANIZES PANEL DISCUSSION
Date: May 22, 2008 from 5 - 7 pm
The Permanent Mission of Argentina to the UN is organizing a panel discussion in New York to promote the ratification and entry into force of the Convention.

REGIONAL CONFERENCE IN GUATEMALA
Date: April 22-23, 2008
Regional seminar to promote and discuss the convention is organized in Guatemala by 'la Liga de Hygiene Mental' and Aim for human rights. Distinguished lawyers and other human rights defenders from Guatemala and abroad explain the convention in detail.

7TH SESSION OF HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL
Date: March 2008
The United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary disappearance will be reviewed by the HRC during this session. There will also be other activities related to the Convention.

MEETING ICAED AND GROUP DES AMIS
Date: March 11, 2008 from 1 - 3 pm
ICAED representatives and the Group des Amis will meet during a side event to the HRC. The status of ratifications and strategies for campaigning will be discussed. The Group des Amis is the group of states that agreed to cooperate in promoting the convention.

CONFERENCE ON CONVENTION IN SOUTH AFRICA
Date: February 26 - 27, 2008
On the first day of the conference the background and content of the convention will be explained within the regional context. The second day will be dedicated to the regional challenges and the national dillemmas in South Africa.

CONVENTION ON AGENDA SUBCOMMITTEE EP
Date: January 24, 2008
The convention will be discussed by the Human Rights subcommittee of the European Parliament.

COCAP CAMPAIGN FOR THE DISAPPEARED
Date: January 15 - February 15, 2008
A team of 15 COCAP volunteers will travel from the Mechi to the Mahakali actively engaging with the families affected by disappearances and promote the convention.

42 ORDINARY SESSION OF THE AFRICAN COMMISSION ON HUMAN RIGHTS AND PEOPLES

In accordance with Article 62 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights, States Parties to the Charter are required to submit every two years, a report on the legislative or other measures taken, with a view to giving effect to the rights and freedoms recognized and guaranteed by the Charter.

FAMILY MEMBER ORGANISATIONS LOBBY INDONESIAN GOVERNMENT

A delegation of representatives from KontraS and the Association of Family Members of the Disappeared in Indonesia (IKOHI) are accompanied by representatives of the Asian Federation Against Involuntary Disappearances (AFAD) and the Latin American Federation of Associations of Relatives of Disappeared – Detainees in visiting government agencies to remind the Indonesian government of its official promise to sign the United Nations Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance.
